Plant Sale of Delphiniums

A Plant Sale of delphinium mixed seedlings and named varieties, takes place on Saturday, 6th April at 10 am at Coronation Hall, Hellesdon NR6 6LE.  It is organised by the Delphinium Society, Eastern Group, contact John Harrison, secretary, email address  john@harrisonf.freeserve.co.uk

We had a talk on delphinium growing last year and I was encouraged to try a few.  I am waiting to see whether they will reappear this spring.  It might be wise to buy some as back up.

Saturday, and its not raining!

well I am itching to get on in the garden, and have done a bit of tidying up with the huge and guiltless aid of the BROWN BIN, but I was careful to shake all the bits of litter I have discarded so as not to consign the small creatures to two weeks of solitary in the aforesaid brown bin prior to collection, and then the torture of composting at the mercy of the council facility, because I want them all to live happily and healthily in my soil, not just die in someone else's.

Birds in the tree

Just cut up Christmas tree, it makes excellent kindling (even when  green) and found a nest.

Just been in to Reepham to check the excellent new PA in readiness for this week meeting and coming back we found a newt taking itself for a slow very walk  in January; now that has to be wrong. We used a leaf to move it to safety.

Happy new year all.

Ash trees

There's a tall ash tree in the hedge in my back garden, I have often wanted it removed as I fret about how much water it takes from the veg' plot and the shade it throws but the prospect of all ash trees succumbing to a new virus is alarming.

UEA are asking everyone to report sightings of ash dieback disease at their website, ash tag.org  Have Reepham gardening Club members seen any signs locally?  Karen

Cleaning out the greenhouse leads to start of gardening experiment.

Ok, I know that it is a bit late, but I have just got round to clearing the toms out of the greenhouse. There were even a number of toms were worth saving for scoffing later.

As I was pulling the plant up I noticed one of the plants had a nice strong side shoot; so I have snapped it off, shoved it in a pot, and we will see if we are eating toms earlier than normal next year - assuming that we can keep it alive over the winter.
